‘Meadow III’

This is the latest in my ‘Meadow’ series. This is a 24″ X 36″ acrylic on a 1 1/2″ gallery wrapped canvas.

I first toned the entire canvas with orange and then began laying in the foliage before adding the flower heads and highlights. I have always been fascinated with meadows because of their beauty and their diversity of both flora and fauna. In the neighborhood where I live we have a couple of areas of undeveloped land that are allowed to ‘grow up’ over the summer months before being mowed in the fall. I love walking through these areas and watching the progression as they begin to become meadows each season.

They blossom with everything from beautiful grasses to Queen Anne’s Lace, Thistle, Milkweed, clover, aster, chicory and ‘Butter and Eggs’ among others. In years when the Milkweed abounds the Monarchs are plentiful along with a multitude of other butterflies. The red wing blackbirds love the meadows and we have even some Bob Whites over the years.

The ever changing beauty of these seasonal ‘meadows’ always attracts my attention and inspires me to want to capture that beauty on canvas.

This is ‘Meadow II’, the third in my meadow series. It is a 24″ X 30″ on a 1 1/2″ gallery wrapped canvas.

This is the second of my meadow series. It is a 24″ X 12″ painting on a 1 1/2″ gallery wrapped canvas.

This is ‘Meadow’. It is also a 24″ X 36″ painting. A dear friend of mine purchased this one before I even had it completely finished.

It has been fun for me to watch the different renditions of color and mood in my various meadow paintings. I never quite know what I might be in the mood to do when I start. It really is a process of unveiling and letting my ‘inner artist’ come out and play.
